Friday September 24, 2010 on the set of the movie Transformers 3 in downtown Detroit, Michigan.
After setting up for the shot for a couple of hours and rehearsing the actors running into the street, they finally ‘blew up’ the building . First they yelled “Fire in the hole!” then “Rolling!” and then came the booms.
Security was minimal, concerned only it seemed with keeping everyone out of danger. One crew guy was giving some banter to the crowd about the billowing smoke, or the “cloud of death” as he called it. Apparently if we inhaled it, our noses would bleed and we would die slowly. Uh yeah. I think it had been a long day for him on the set!
I spoke to the guy who installed the windows in the building–the same guy who would be re-installing them the next day. “Yeah, it’s a cool gig,” he said. Every little boost to the economy helps!
